Frequently Asked Questions

Psychotherapy is a collaborative treatment based on the relationship between an individual and a psychotherapist. Conversations in a supportive environment allows you to talk openly with someone who’s objective, neutral and non-judgmental.
Your problem doesn’t have to be “major” before you go to a therapist. If it is troubling you, that is what is important.
Therapists are trained to see a bigger picture, not to judge you. Conversation with a therapist will help you understand your issues with self-image, thoughts, habits, and relationships.

Therapy develops the ability to express yourself creatively and confidently. Through talking, you come to a deeper understanding of who you are.By becoming aware of your thoughts, you can actively change them. Therapy can help you move towards a sense of resolution about particular issues and provide you with tools to help you live a more balanced and satisfying life.Poor management of emotions that lead to withdrawal, or acting out of hurts or behaviour, criticism or a judgmental attitude, feelings of unfairness, all bring people into therapy.Sometimes it can be difficult letting go of old hurts or experiences from your family of origin.

Many clients say that not only have they resolved the original problem that brought them to therapy, but they have learned new skills that enable them to better cope with other challenges that have arisen.
Therapy is not for everyone. What is required is a curiosity about your own experiences and a willingness to look honestly into yourself and your reactions.
Some people come a few times, others take years. The answer depends on your goals and expectations. You make your own decision about when it is time to end or pause your therapy.

It is natural for people who are new to therapy to wonder about the process. You will sit and chat with me for 50 minutes, face to face. I have a couch in my office, but that is not where a therapy begins. The session is time set aside for you, what you talk about will vary according to your needs, everyday events, dilemmas, feelings, thoughts, regrets, aspirations, memories and dreams.I will provide a safe environment in which to explore your issues and work towards your self-improvement.
